Peace,
Security and Nuclear Disarmament
Ladies
and Gentlemen,
Namaste
and Good Afternoon! Greetings from Nepal
I
represent Harihar Youth Club, an NGO being run in the
village area of Nepal which is devoted to social works. I
thank the organizer for allowing me to participate in this
august gathering of distinguished participants from all over
the world.
Peace is
the birth right of every human kind. People can live in
harmony where there is peace. Peaceful living depends upon
so many factors. The paradise of human life is being slowly
destroyed because of political inequity and economic
disparity.
Growing
lack of political sanity in the form of arms race and
aggression, the world is not a better place to live in.
Worldwide peace is destabilized. Small and strategically
weak countries have suffered from the growing arms race
competition by so called big or militarily well equipped
nations.
I think
military alternative is not solution to the conflict. The
use of military alternative in Sri Lanka, Palestine, Iraq,
Kashmir and many others are before us. But no peace is given
to the lives of the people in those places.
Many
innocent lives have been taken in the name of security, but
people are not secured at all. Every second the killings of
people are reported as leading news through media.
I believe
peace cannot be restored or maintained by arms and weapons.
If yes, why there is not peace in the peace in the places
that I just mentioned earlier. I think all
governments, global or international governmental or
not-governmental, civil societies must unite for restoring
peace by disarmament and use of religious and social values.
Let me
share Nepalese experiences. Nepal is small country situated
between china and India. It has been the exponent of world
peace. As a member of the United Nations Organization and
non-alignment movement, it has been playing active role in
maintaining peace worldwide. It sends peace keeping force to
different countries from time to time through the auspices
of the United Nations Organization. The foreign policy of
this country is guided by the basic philosophy of peace and
understanding.
I would
like to touch upon slightly to the modern political history
of Nepal. Multi party democracy was restored in the country
in 1990. Globally acclaimed constitution was promulgated. As
the time passed by, the governments could not fulfill the
increasing aspirations of Nepalese people. Armed struggle
started nine years ago. Peace has become only the agenda of
Nepalese people today. Peace has been really threatened. We
have seen that military option is not begetting the desired
results. Dialogue for peace is demand of the day. But we are
not visualizing the peace in the way people see it.
The type
of conference being organized would be instrumental in
restoring peace not only in the respective countries or
regions but worldwide too. The things we share and the views
we express will definitely help in shaping the ideas and
views of the political and other leaders of the society. We
have to emphasize on the core human values and independence
of human beings and the nation states. Human dignity,
political and social freedom, religious harmony,
international understanding, etc must guide the political
and economic policies of the nations. Arms race and
aggression only creates unrest and disharmony. In order to
convert the world into a lovable and peaceful heaven for
everyone, socio-economic and political framework of the
world need drastic change such changes must be based upon
religious harmony, democracy, human rights and equal
distribution of wealth in the society
May Peace
be in Nepal!
May Peace prevail on Earth!!
